Cockrell runs No. 6 all-time 40.42 in the 300H

 

North Carolina State Meet Highlights

 

It was all about the field events -- and spectacular hurdling -- Friday and Saturday at the North Carolina High School State Track and Field Championships at N.C. A&T Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro.

- On the track, standout Hillside senior Marcus Krah  broke the 110 hurdles state meet record as he cruised to a 4A victory in 13.32. His time is currently the fastest in the nation.  

- Senior Anna Cockrell did major work for Providence Day in Clas 3A, winning the 100 meters (11.63), the 200 (23.66), the 100 hurdles (13.52) and the 300 hurdles (No. 6 all-time 40.42).

- National discus leader Terrell Adams of Middle Creek threw 189 feet, 3 inches to set a 4A state meet record. He added to his hardware by winning the shot put with a throw of 58-1.50. 

- In the 3A pole vault, Bailey Frederick of Marvin Ridge set a state meet record clearing 16-1. Teammate Carter Clasper of Marvin Ridge was runner-up clearing 15-feet. 

- Senior Elijah Cole of Millbrook won the 4A pole vault (15-6). 

 - Ragsdale senior Chesney Ward  cleared 13-2 and PR'd by eight inches to win the 4A girls title. 

- Junior Tamara Clark of High Point picked up two 4A titles in impressive fashion as she won the 100 (11.52) and 200 (23.53), both U.S. top 10 times. 

- Green Hope's Jayquan Williams picked up a 4A 800 title, running 1:51.46. Earlier, he teamed up with Matthew Kehn, Ian Delgado and Henry Pehr to run an all-time state best and U.S. No. 2 time of 7:38.83 in the 4x800.  

- Junior distance runner Nevada Mareno of Leesville Road had one of the most productive days, picking up three wins. Mareno won the 800 (US#9 2:08.51), 1,600 (4:51.57) and 3,200 (US#8 10:17.70) 4A crowns. 

- At the 2A level, senior Brittany Stanley of Mount Pleasant set a 800 record, running 2:13.53. 

- Senior McKinley McNeill of Parkland cruised to a 4A girls 400 title in a top 10 time of 53.50. 

- Mallard Creek's Cravont Charleston won the 4A 100 in 10.38. 

- At the 2A meet, junior Kayla Moore of Hugh M Cummings set a record in the 100 hurdles, winning in 13.71, a top 10 time. She also picked up the 300 hurdle crown in 43.79.

- In the 100 hurdles, Akira Rhodes was the only runner to dip under 14 seconds, as she ran 13.76 to easily win the 4A title, a current top 20 time. 

- Raymonte Dow of High Point won the 300 hurdles 4A crown in 37.39.

- In the 4A high jump, sophomore Kenya Livingston of Rocky River (5-8) and  senior Joseph Ibrahim of West Forsyth (6-8) were winners. 

- Desmond Lindsey of Forest Hills won the 2A high jump crown clearing 6-8. 

- The Overhills 4x4 team of  Anthony Faraimo, Zachary Ray, Andrew Faraimo and Antoine Ewell ran 3:19.10 to win the 4A crown.  

- Jalen Jones of Hoke County won the 4A 400 title in 47.91.

- The 4x8 Richlands team of team of Aaron Rand, Kevon Pascoe, Rj Russell and Darius Futrell clocked at top 20 time of 7:47.56  to win the 3A crown. 

- In the sprints, junior Titus Toms of Burns claimed the 3A 100 meter dash crown, running 10.74.

- Noah Shore of Ashville won the 3A 1,600 meter title in 4:14.48 and picked up the 800 title (1:56.23). 

- Senior Elliot Graves of Reidsville won the 300 hurdles in 37.65.

- Hillside's boys (52) and Southeast Raleigh's girls (69.5) won the Class 4A titles. 

- Providence Day swept the 3A titles by piling up big point totals. The boys scored 130 points, the girls 172.
